Case study: British Fires 1600 electric fire installation in Ormskirk

Preparation

For this installation in Ormskirk, the Fireplace Warehouse team wanted to create a media wall that would frame the TV and accommodate the wide-format British Fires 1600 electric fire (the New Forest 1600 range).

As with any media wall build, the early stage focuses on proportions and practicalities. We consider the room layout, the TV viewing height, where power will be taken from, and how everything will be hidden, so the finished wall looks built-in.

Electric media wall fires are the ideal choice for this, because they’re designed to be built into a media wall (and don’t require a flue or chimney for operation).

Bespoke media wall

Once the design was agreed, we moved on to building a bespoke media wall to recess the television and fire into a single integrated feature. While we wanted the result to look architectural, cable management played a big part in the design.

Creating a purpose-built void behind the TV area and within the structure meant we could keep connections accessible and avoid visible or trailing leads.

The fireplace: British Fires 1600 electric fire

The centrepiece for this project was the British Fires 1600 electric fire (the New Forest 1600 range). It’s a wide-format design that has a bold, panoramic presence and comes with British Fires’ signature (incredibly convincing) ceramic log set.

This fire can be installed in a 1-, 2-, or 3-sided configuration, which is useful when you’re tailoring the look to the room and the wall design during planning.

It’s also designed with media-wall configurations in mind. British Fires’ suggests starting with your TV size first, then choosing whether you want the fire 1-, 2- or 3-sided to complete the composition.

Installation

With the structure prepared, the fire was installed into the opening and configured to suit the layout.

British Fires supplies a kit that supports the different-sided options, and their installation guidance stresses having the appliance on site before building, as part of the unit sits concealed behind the wall during a media wall install.

After positioning the fire, we completed the finishing details, so the fireplace sat within the media wall lines (which created the built-in look). Once powered on, the panoramic flame display created a beautiful orange glow.

The result

The finished media wall has completely changed the feel of the room. The TV and fire now sit as one intentional feature, with the wide-format flame lighting up the room with British Fires’ signature panoramic flames.

It’s a great example of what a properly planned media wall can do. At the Fireplace Warehouse, we take a standard wall and turn it into a purpose-built media feature.
