Preparation
Our installation of this DRU gas fire and Penman fireplace suite began with thorough preparation (and the right product). Before the final fitting, we conducted a survey to check the opening, flue route, and practical details to ensure suitability.
For anyone planning a similar upgrade, we encourage customers to measure the width and depth of their chimney breast and bring a quick photo when they visit our Aintree showroom – we can advise on suitability from there.
Protective coverings were laid throughout the property to maintain a clean workspace, and the original hearth area was carefully excavated to provide a solid, fire-rated foundation for the new components.
Leading Brands
We are dedicated to ensuring that our products are sourced from all the leading manufacturers in the UK and Europe. All the fires we sell come with full Manufacturers Guarantees.
The Fireplace: Dru gas fire (and Penman fireplace suit)
The design aesthetic for this installation relied on the harmony between two industry-leading brands. With the homeowner’s wants in mind and our team’s knowledge, we settled on a DRU gas fire.
DRU has been manufacturing fireplaces since 1754, and the brand is known for its forward-thinking, efficient technology in contemporary casings. For a statement feature that also delivers dependable heat, this was the best choice.
To frame the fire, we installed a fireplace suite from The Penman Collection. The suite, crafted from natural stone, is designed to work with a selection of fires, and pairing it with a DRU gas fire gave our customer the clean, balanced impression they wanted.
Installation
On installation day, the first job is always preparation of the work area (followed by getting the opening and surround ready for the new suite and fire).
Why is this so vital? Where a chimney breast or enclosure is involved, ventilation and heat management are treated as part of the build. DRU also stresses that a chimney breast must be ventilated to discharge heat properly, so we factor this into the installation.
Next came the technical part of the job – positioning the appliance, completing the gas connection, and installing the flue system in line with manufacturer requirements.
Placement decisions are heavily dependent on the room, the available flue/chimney options, and services such as gas and (where needed) electricity for controls, so before the final finishing, we made sure everything was in place.
Once fitted, the fire is commissioned and tested, and the controls are set up for the customer.
The result
The finished installation is a strong, room-defining focal feature that uses the best of two industry-leading brands.
DRU’s advanced Dynamic Flame Burners, combined with the balanced proportions of The Penman Collection suite, mean the homeowner now enjoys a high-efficiency, low-maintenance fireplace (and will do for years to come!)
